Who comes for colonic hydrotherapy? Lots of people can improve their health and benefit from colonic hydrotherapy. Both men and women, young and old, those looking to maintain peak fitness and health, athletes and sports people, those who are concerned with weight problems, people who have other health concerns such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, depression, fatigue, skin problems, yeast infections (Candida) and many more also can benefit from cleansing the colon. What happens during a colonic treatment? When you come to have a colonic your colonic registered colonic therapist will begin by taking your case history followed by an explanation of the treatment. The process takes betwwen 30 to 40 minutes. During the colonic treatment filtered water will be gently introduced into the colon via the rectum. Your therapist will be performing abdominal massage techniques to stimulate the release of stored matter. At all times throughout the treatment the modesty is preserved. The use of herbs and probioctics may be used. At the end of the treatment your therapist may advise you of beneficial dietary changes to further enhance the treatment. Is colonic hydrotherapy safe? Yes. The water is introduced at a low gravitational pressure so there is no risk of bowel perforation. all equipment is either disposable or disinfected and sterilised using hospital approved disinfecting solutions, which kill all viruses, bacteria and fungi. How many treatments are required? This depends on each individual case and advice will be given after the first consultation and treatment. It may vary from only one to a number of treatments spread out over a period of time. Will one colonic completely empty the colon? Almost never. Firstly, many of us have a considerable amount of impacted faeces in our colon. This is hardened, rubbery or wallpaper like material. Substantial work must be done to remove it. One colonic will remove some of the stagnant waste in the colon; the second and subsequent treatments will remove more. How will I know when the colon is empty? It will probably never be completely empty as the colon is an organ that is in continuous use. As more of the old impacted material is released you will actually feel the water enter higher regions of the colon without any sense of obstruction. The objective should not be an empty colon but rather a well functioning colon. Will a colonic make me constipated or give me diarrhoea? Following a treatment it is common to have a slight delay in bowel movement then the resumption of a somewhat, easier to move stool. Sometimes if the colon is weak and sluggish there may be no bowel movement for several days, however, this is not due to the colonic but rather the weakness of the colon and should be recognised that the colon needs strengthening and healing. Infrequently diarrhoea or loose stools may be experienced, this can be due to the extra water introduced into the colon or to the stirring up of toxic waste. If this should happen it is usually of a very short duration. However, severe diarrhoea can dehydrate the body and should be carfully monitored. Do I need to prepare for my treatment? It is advisable not to have a large meal or leave a couple of hours after eating before the treatment. This is because abdominal massage will be performed and could be uncomfortable if you have a full stomach. It is also helpful to make sure you drink plenty of water. |
